Storm, Accident or Water Damage? How RV Insurance Repairs Work

10 June 2026

When something goes wrong with your motorhome or caravan, the last thing you want is to be stuck juggling repairs and insurance paperwork at the same time. A storm rolls through and a branch comes down on the roof, a moment's bad luck on the road leaves you with accident damage, or you finally track down the source of that musty smell and discover water has been getting in for months. Whatever the cause, RV Masters is here to take the hassle off your shoulders.

We're a family-run workshop in the Waikato, and RVs are all we do. That means when your insurer needs a repair done properly, you've got specialists in your corner who understand motorhomes and caravans inside and out.

What kinds of insurance repairs do we handle?

We carry out a wide range of insurance repair work for motorhomes and caravans, including:

  • Storm damage – roof damage, broken windows and vents, hail damage, and the flow-on effects of wind and rain getting into the vehicle.
  • Accident damage – panel, body and structural repairs after a collision or knock on the road, in a campground, or at home.
  • Water ingress and water damage – leaks around seals, joins and fittings that let moisture in, along with the soft floors, swollen panels and interior damage that often follow.

Because we work on RVs every single day, we know where these problems tend to start and how to put them right so they stay fixed.

We deal with your insurer for you

One of the biggest reasons owners come to us for insurance work is simple: we take the back-and-forth off your plate. Once you've lodged your claim, we can liaise directly with your insurer about the repair – assessing the damage, providing a clear quote, and working through the details with them so you don't have to chase paperwork or translate workshop jargon.

You stay informed, but you don't have to project-manage your own repair. That's our job.

How the process works

We like to keep things straightforward. Here's what working with us usually looks like:

  1. Get in touch. Give us a call or send an email and tell us what's happened. If you've already started a claim, let us know who your insurer is.
  2. Assessment. We inspect the motorhome or caravan and work out the full extent of the damage – including anything that isn't obvious at first glance.
  3. Quote. We put together a clear, itemised quote for the repair.
  4. Liaise with your insurer. We deal directly with your insurer on the repair so you're not stuck in the middle.
  5. Repair. Our team carries out the work to a proper standard, using the right approach for your RV.
  6. Back on the road. Once everything's done and checked over, you're ready to get back out there.

Why choose an RV specialist?

Motorhomes and caravans aren't like cars, and they aren't like houses – even though they share bits of both. Roof membranes, seals, lightweight panels, joinery, plumbing and electrics all need to be understood together. A general repairer might patch the obvious damage and miss the underlying cause; an RV specialist looks at the whole picture.

At RV Masters, RVs are our focus, not a sideline. We're based in a Waikato workshop and we take pride in honest, careful work that gets your motorhome or caravan back to where it should be.
